Imael Angel Bad Times: the song behind the angry dance (is it AI?)

Imael Angel Bad Times, the song behind the angry dance trend: its release date, UK chart peaks, the HUGEL link, and what Deezer says about AI.

Last updated: 2026-11-01

The song behind the angry dance is “Bad Times” by Imael Angel, a deep-house single released on March 30, 2026. Is it AI? Deezer’s artist biography describes Imael Angel as “an artist created with artificial intelligence by a Hungarian deep house producer”, and the same act is credited on HUGEL’s UK hit “Movin’ To The Sun”, which by HUGEL’s own account began as an early version made with an AI music tool. We found no public credit or statement saying which parts of “Bad Times” itself were made with AI.

The song

Apple Music and Deezer both list “Bad Times” with a release date of March 30, 2026, and Apple Music files it under House. Deezer lists the original release on Imael Angel Records; the Official Charts Company lists EMI as the label of the charting single.

Search “Imael Angel Bad Times” on Apple Music and several versions come up: the original single, which runs about 2 minutes 47 seconds, plus an Extended Version and a Long Version of about 6 minutes 40 seconds each, all dated March 30, 2026, and a dance remix dated April 24, 2026. On TikTok, the trend uses the “Bad Times” sound by Imael Angel.

From release to the angry dance

The song had been out for five months before the trend. From late August 2026, TikTok users lip-synced it while arguing with whoever held the camera, and a single-take kitchen version became the one most people copy. In late September, AI versions starring pets spread, and in October free one-photo templates in CapCut, promoted as the “angry dance filter”, turned it into a filter trend. The full timeline and the moves are in the angry dance trend, explained.

The UK charts

The Official Charts Company’s figures follow the trend’s timing:

  • Official Singles Sales Chart: first entry in September 2026, peak No. 4.
  • Official Singles Downloads Chart: first entry in September 2026, peak No. 2.
  • Official Singles Chart Top 100: entered at No. 97 in the week ending October 1, 2026, and peaked at No. 67 in mid-October.
  • Official Dance Singles Chart: peak No. 16. Official Independent Singles Chart: peak No. 27.

These are the positions listed on the Official Charts site on October 31, 2026.

Is “Bad Times” an AI song?

Here is what the public record says, and what it doesn’t.

Deezer’s biography. Imael Angel’s page on Deezer carries a biography supplied by Music Story: “Imael Angel is an artist created with artificial intelligence by a Hungarian deep house producer. Active since 2026, he released several singles and found success on music platforms, before scoring a hit with the track ‘I’m Moving to the Sun’, charting in the UK singles and downloads charts.” It doesn’t name the producer, and neither do we.

The HUGEL connection. “Movin’ To The Sun”, released on May 22, 2026, is credited to HUGEL, Imael Angel and Ultra Naté. It peaked at No. 2 on the UK’s Official Singles Chart and reached No. 1 on the UK sales, downloads, dance and independent charts. The Official Charts Company also lists Imael Angel’s own “I’m Moving To The Sun” on its sales chart in May 2026. Reporting on an Instagram reel by HUGEL, WeRaveYou wrote on September 27, 2026 that Imael Angel had made an early version with the AI music tool Suno, that HUGEL sampled pieces of it and rearranged the track with a new drop, and quoted him: “The AI was just used to do the layer of the vocal.”

What isn’t public. We found no credit, interview or label statement that says how “Bad Times” itself was made: which tools, whose voice, or how much was edited by hand.

So the fair answer is this. Imael Angel is presented as an AI-created artist, and the act’s best-known collaboration started, by HUGEL’s account, from an AI-made early version. How “Bad Times” was made is not documented.
